Privacy Policy

83Sciences (“83Sciences”, “we”, “us”) provides an electronic lab notebook and scientific data platform for research groups, available at 83sciences.ai and through our mobile applications. This policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the web application, the mobile apps, and this website.

Account information. When you sign up or sign in (including with Google or Apple), our authentication provider, Clerk, processes your name, email address, and authentication identifiers on our behalf. We do not receive or store your Google or Apple password.

Research content. The notebook entries, files, measurements, sketches, and voice recordings you and your lab members create are stored so we can provide the service. Voice recordings are transcribed automatically; both the audio and the transcript are stored with your lab’s data.

Usage and device information. We collect basic logs and analytics (such as pages visited, feature usage, device type, and IP address) to operate, secure, and improve the service.

We use the information we collect to:

• provide, maintain, and improve the 83Sciences platform;
• authenticate you and keep your account secure;
• transcribe voice notes and process files you upload, at your direction;
• respond to support requests and communicate service updates; and
• monitor for abuse and protect the integrity of the service.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your research content to train machine-learning models for other customers.

Your research content is visible to the members of the labs you belong to, according to the roles your lab administrators assign. We share data with service providers who process it on our behalf, including cloud hosting, storage, authentication (Clerk), and AI transcription providers, under agreements that limit their use of your data to providing services to us. We may also disclose information if required by law, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to previously collected data.

We retain your data while your account is active. You can delete individual notebook entries and voice recordings in the product, and you can delete your account entirely from the mobile app’s Settings screen or by contacting us. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a commercially reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal or security purposes. Content that belongs to a lab (such as notebook entries you contributed) remains with that lab.

Data is encrypted in transit, and access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. You can exercise these rights through the product or by contacting us at the address below, and we will respond as required by applicable law.

83Sciences is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the “Last updated” date above; material changes will be communicated through the product or by email.
